CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The Trump Administration announced on Monday, SNAP benefits will restart, but it will be half the normal payment and delayed.
Local leaders and organizations continue to lend a helping hand as millions will go without some of their SNAP benefits during the government shutdown.
It was announced over the weekend that the administration would comply with a federal court ruling and fund SNAP using a contingency account of $6 billion. But on Monday, the administration said it would only tap a little more than $4.5 billion. This will only cover about half of each eligible household's SNAP benefits through November.
"I sense that it's a part of their negotiation. I don't think that the answer is satisfactory, but I think that it's part of the negotiation," said Congres
