SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Ensuring safe and affordable housing in Springfield, that’s the goal behind a new pilot program that aims to make sure homes and apartments are up to city code.

“No one should have to live in those kinds of conditions. It’s subhuman,” said Allie Hublou.

She says she’s seen her fair share of homes in Springfield in disrepair. It’s a story we’ve covered numerous times over the years.

“I’m on social security disability myself. These are the kinds of places that I’m expected to live,” said Hublou.

Not only is she a renter, but she is also part of Springfield Tenants Unite, a group that’s been advocating for better living conditions in rental properties across the city.
