CLEVELAND — Colbi Maples re-announced her presence with 29 points as Cleveland State cruised to a 71-49 season-opening victory over Chicago State.
Maples, the 2023-24 Horizon League Player of the Year, played in just three games last season after suffering a devastating injury. She came back with a bang Monday night at the Wolstein Center, shooting 9 of 17 from the field.
No other Vikings managed to reach double figures, but Macey Fegan did have 13 rebounds and Jada Leonard added seven assists in her debut after transferring from Bryant. CSU is chasing its fifth straight 20-win season, but will have to do so without 2025 Horizon League Player of the Year Mickayla Perdue, who transferred to Arizona .
Aiyanna Culver led Chicago State with 18 points. As a team, the Cougars made just 26
