JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Carson-Newman beat Catawba 24-16 in a meaningful South Atlantic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Burke-Tarr Stadium.

The Eagles won their ninth straight at home. It’s not an easy place to play.

Catawba (6-3, 4-3) carried some staggering offensive stats into the game, as one of the nation’s best in efficiency numbers such as third-down conversion rates, red zone conversion rates and pass completion percentage.

Carson-Newman’s SAC-leading defense was up to the challenge. Catawba scored only one TD on its five trips to the red zone, and the Indians converted just 29 percent of their third downs into first downs.
