A Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) loophole means households could get £600 in Winter Fuel Payments instead of £300. Department for Work and Pensions, or DWP , Winter Fuel Payments will be reinstated to all pensioners in in the UK this winter – but will be clawed back automatically from those earning over £35,000 a year.
It means nine million pensioners will get the £200 or £300 top-up to help pay energy bills this year. If you live alone, you will receive £200 if you were born between 22 September 1945 and 21 September 1959, or £300 if you were born before 22 September 1945.
But if more than one person over state pension age lives in your home, the amount you receive can change. The rules mean two people sharing the same home could get £600 between them this winter.
