Ravichandran Ashwin has withdrawn from the upcoming Big Bash League season after injuring his knee during training in Chennai.

The 39-year-old Indian all-rounder shared the update through a heartfelt social media post on Monday.

He wrote, “While training in Chennai to prepare for the upcoming season, I hurt my knee. I’ve had a procedure, and the outcome means I will miss BBLI15. That is tough to say.”

Ashwin had signed with Sydney Thunder and was set to become the first male Indian cricketer to play in the BBL. His withdrawal disappointed fans and the franchise, who had eagerly anticipated his debut on Australian soil.
