HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Ever since democratic Mayor Lauren Garrett decided not to run for another term, Hamden has become an interesting race to watch.

This is a largely democratic town, and the democratic primary two months ago had five candidates running. Adam Sendroff (D-Conn.) won that election, and Jameka Jeffries (I-Conn.) lost but is still running as a petitioning candidate.

Jonathan Katz (R-Conn.), who is just 24 years old, is the republican nominee. He was out talking to voters back on primary day, even though he wasn’t on the ballot.

All three have put one issue above all others in this race.

"The same issue in every single neighborhood all across town and that's property taxes," Sendroff said.

"It's obviously the property taxes," Katz said.
