CHICAGO — A man was critically injured after he was shot by a group of gunmen on the city's West Side overnight.

According to Chicago police, the shooting unfolded around 7:30 p.m. in the 5600 block of West Madison Avenue, in Austin.

Officers say the victim, an 18-year-old man, was standing in an alley in the area when three unknown individuals approached and opened fire in his direction before fleeing the scene.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to his chest and was later taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Currently, it is unclear what led up to the shooting, and officers say no arrests have been made.
