WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) - A death investigation is underway in Wakulla County after human remains were discovered on the Apalachicola National Forest property last week, according to the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation comes after deputies were called by a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officer around 11:40 a.m. Thursday, WCSO spokesperson Captain Brett Surace confirmed to WCTV Tuesday morning.

The remains were found by the FWC officer, who Surace said happened to be in the area of the national forest.

More news out of the Big Bend

Surace described the area as very remote and well known for hunting and other outdoor activities.

As of Tuesday morning, it is too soon to determine if foul play is a possibility, according to the spokesperson
