SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller is predicting a very light turnout for Tuesday’s special election in Springfield.
Based on the number of voters who voted absentee in this election, he is forecasting a 3-5% turnout.
Voters in the city are being asked to approve a 3% increase in the city’s tax on hotels, motels and short-term rentals for the purpose of attracting travel and tourism, including the construction of a regional convention and event center.
“When absentee voting is light, it usually corresponds to a lighter turnout and, of course, a stronger turnout when absentee voting is heavier,” Schoeller said this morning.
The issue is the only one on Greene County ballots. Citizens outside the city do not have ballots to cast today.
