CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Patrick Morrisey on Tuesday said he will call the West Virginia Legislature into special session if additional state dollars are needed to provide food assistance.
Although the Trump administration recently said it would use an contingency fund to provide partial Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits for November amid the ongoing government shutdown, Morrisey said the state will continue to provide funding and logistical support for food banks for the time being.
"While we have heard that SNAP cards are going to be turned on relatively soon, they'll be turned on not at the full benefit," he said. "So I'm going to continue to make sure that people have the food they need."
The governor, who has so far authorized the distribution of around $9 million
