MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Coach Mikel Cleveland's job at Murphy High School could be one of the most satisfying yet difficult jobs in school. He gets to help struggling students do the things they need to do to graduate. His title is dropout prevention specialist.
"That means any kid who falls behind, me and the counselors work hand in hand, and my job is to get them back on track so they can graduate on time," said Cleveland.
He's been doing it here at Murphy for the past seven years. Before that, he was at B.C. Rain High School for four years. He realizes it's not always easy.
"The best thing I like about it is how I can reach out and help the kids. Because you never know what they're going through at home, and I'm their outlet here to get them back on track," he said.
