ANDERSON, Ind. — A pilot is dead after his plane crashed in Madison County Tuesday afternoon.

The Madison County Sheriff's Department said they responded to a fatal plane crash around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Just before 6:30 p.m., the coroner identified the pilot as 79-year-old Robert Snider of the Elwood area.

Chief Deputy Michael Warner said responding deputies found a single-engine plane on fire that struck a tree in the 4200 block of North County Road 100 West, just north of Anderson.

The pilot was the only occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the pilot is unknown at this time. His autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 6.
