CHARLOTTETOWN – Prince Edward Island says it plans to spend $857 million over the next five years on major projects.
The capital budget presented by Finance Minister Jill Burridge focuses on health care, education, and infrastructure spending.
Burridge says the province will spend $538 million over five years to build new hospital buildings, including $131 million to complete the mental health campus at the Hillsborough Hospital.
The minister says $14 million will go toward the provincial health record system, with the goal of improving access to records across the network.
Another $765,000 will be spent on an artificial intelligence software that Burridge says will help modernize how land on the Island is parcelled out and permitted.
