Poll workers across Shenandoah County reported steady participation Tuesday morning as residents turned out to decide a slate of state and local races, from governor to school board.

At the New Market precinct, poll worker Rick Moomaw said 591 voters had cast ballots by 11:10 a.m., describing a steady morning flow. In Woodstock, election officers estimated about 5 percent of registered voters had voted by 9 a.m., following what officials called a strong early-voting season.

“We’re seeing a steady turnout,” said Cindy Huss, a poll worker at Woodstock’s precincts 401 and 402. “All elections are important, but this one seems to be a really important election.”
