BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — In Greek mythology, the River Styx separates the living from the dead. In Baldwin County, a portion of the Styx River separated residents from the rest of the world almost every time there was a heavy rain, but hopefully not anymore.

Tuesday, road crews were putting the final touches on an 18-month project to solve an age-old problem, heavy rains routinely washing out River Road along Styx River.

A new bridge, high over Flat Creek that feeds into the river, and a new one-mile stretch of River Road now on higher ground a welcome sight for folks like Blake Taylor who live along River Road. "With the bridge we don't have to worry about it washing out," Taylor said.
