WASHINGTON — The DC Council moved forward with two measures to extend a stricter curfew that was put in place following disruptive gatherings of kids and teenagers known as "teen takeovers."
Unlike the current DC code that applies to those 16 and younger, the enhanced curfew includes 17-year-olds and establishes a universal 11 p.m. curfew. The measure also allows DC Police to establish special zones where groups of 8 kids or more are not allowed to congregate, beginning as early as 8 p.m.
During the summer months, seven curfew zones were set up, and according to DC Police, there were no curfew-related arrests.
On Tuesday, with a 9-4 vote, the council approved emergency legislation to extend the enhanced curfew for an additional 90 days. At-Large Councilmember Robert White, Ward 8 Counc
