PLAINFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) - Plainfield voters are weighing in Tuesday on how to recover from historic flooding.

The community is voting on whether to bond up to $600,000 to buy a 24-acre parcel and allow the town to work with developers to build out 40 units of housing.

Organizers of the downtown relocation effort call the vote critical to the community’s future above the floodplain.

“We can’t stop the rivers from flowing, we can’t stop the floods from happening, but we can move out of the floodplain,” said Arion Thiboumery of the East Village Expansion Advisory Committee.
