(NEXSTAR) – Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport closed its airfield after fiery plane crash involving a UPS aircraft Tuesday evening, officials confirmed.
"UPS has been notified of an incident/accident involving one of our aircraft in Louisville, KY," the delivery company said in a statement on X.
The Louisville Metro Police Dept. announced that a shelter-in-place had been issued for "all locations within 5 miles of the airport" after reports of a plane crash, adding that there were "injuries reported."
"This is an active scene with fire and debris," the department said on X. "Stay away."
Aerial video shot by local news station WLKY showed an extensive swathe of buildings ablaze, with lights from emergency vehicles stretching for blocks.
