ST. GEORGE, Utah (ABC4) — As the U.S. discusses the revival of nuclear testing, some have raised concerns about the environmental and health impacts.
In October, United States President Donald Trump posted on the Truth Social media platform, "I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis. That process will begin immediately."
According to the United States Congress, the United States has not conducted any nuclear testing since 1982, though Congress says that "the United States maintains the capability to resume testing within 24-36 months of a presidential decision to do so."
The U.S. reportedly conducted over a thousand explosive nuclear tests between 1945 and 1992. This week, ABC4 spoke with Ilene Carter, a St. George resident, who says
