EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) announced that no new childcare vouchers will be issued in 2026 due to a lack of funding.

This decision comes nearly a year after the agency reinstated a waitlist for childcare vouchers.

In September of last year, about 930 children were on the waitlist for these vouchers. Now, more than 30,000 children are waiting.

The recent policy change follows a reduction in reimbursement rates that occurred in September.

"If a parent has to choose between childcare and eating, they’re going to choose eating over childcare," said Kashonna Blane, owner and director of Kiddie City Preschool and Childcare.
