WASHINGTON —
The government shutdown is now tied for the longest on record and will become the longest in U.S. history starting Wednesday.
Little progress on ending the shutdown has been made. Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill are reportedly publicly discussing options to end the shutdown and reach a deal.
Our Hearst team asked White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt about President Donald Trump's involvement in conversations to end the shutdown.
"Yes, the president is in constant communication with his friends on Capitol Hill," Leavitt said. "They know they can call, he answers. He picks up the phone. He's a very transparent president in that way. And as soon as the Democrats pass the clean continuing resolution, President Trump will be here to sign it."
