DENVER, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A no-swim advisory has been issued after untreated sewage possibly leaked into a cove on Lake Norman.

The Lincoln County Health Director issued the advisory at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Officials say approximately 700 gallons of sewage "may have" leaked into an unnamed cove located near 4686 Eagle Point Court in Denver. The spill was caused by a utility crew boring into a marked low-pressure line.

Residents are advised not to swim or otherwise have bodily contact with the area.

The Killian Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant is taking water samples and putting out signs. Results will be forwarded to the County Public Utilities Department, which will notify the Health Department.
