MARION COUNTY, Mo (WGEM) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed a bicyclist was hit Tuesday morning on Highway 61 near Hannibal.
According to Sgt. Justin Dunn, around 5 a.m., an individual was struck and killed by a box truck while riding a bicycle northbound on the shoulder of Highway 61, near County Road 409.
Marion County Coroner Richard Jones pronounced the bicyclist dead at 5:25 a.m. at the scene.
Deputies on scene said the driver of the box truck left the scene, and MSHP located the truck.
According to Palmyra police, the driver and the passenger were eventually arrested and are in custody at Marion County Jail.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol Crash Team is on site, leading the investigation.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Highway 61 reopened
