HANNIBAL (WGEM) - The North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) and Maurices in Hannibal have teamed up to help literacy in the community.
Over a thousand books were collected throughout October at Maurices clothing store and donated to NECAC on Tuesday for a push to encourage literacy in the community.
An official with NECAC said whether it’s a cookbook or a children’s book, she hopes that the availability of the donated books will prompt more people to read.
“As we’re working with people that come into the office, there were a lot of forms that people needed assistance with filling out, where they had to be read to them and then their answers recorded,” said Stephanie Dunker, county service coordinator with NECAC. “We were kind of thinking what is a way that we would be able to
