TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Sunnyside High is using peer coaches, games, and prizes to help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid , as Arizona lags behind national completion rates.
Students who complete the FAFSA are 84% more likely to continue their education, according to the National College Attainment Network . But Arizona ranks third-to-last nationally for FAFSA completion, falling behind the national average.
Only 44% of Arizona seniors filled out the FAFSA last year, more than 10% below the national average .
Peer coaches lead outreach efforts
For the first time this year, Sunnyside High trained five peer coaches to help fellow students complete the financial aid application.
