RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WSAV) — Kristi Cox has been elected the new mayor Richmond Hill in a historic race.
This is the first time since the city was incorporated in 1962 that Richmond Hill voters elected a woman to serve as mayor.
Cox won the election by 1,031 votes. Her opponent, Belgicia Howell-Cowart, was a political newcomer to the area with a resume full of volunteerism locally and state-wide.
"This is a momentous event for the history of Richmond Hill. what I really hope is that while I will be the first female mayor of Richmond Hill, I want to do a great job so that people that come behind me and young girls that are looking up to me realize how important it is to be a person of character and integrity and that we work hard and we do the right things," Cox told WSAV moments after le
