BEAUFORT, S.C. (WSAV) — A major stormwater project in Downtown Beaufort is about to shift into its next phase, and it will temporarily shut down one of the city's main gateways to local businesses.

In a public meeting Tuesday, frustrated shop owners demanded answers from the city.

“It’s understandable that the store owners and the business owners downtown and the restaurant owners are concerned about this. This is this is one more thing, frankly,” said Scott Marshall, the Beaufort city manager.

On top of the current economy, the waterfront closure, and preparation for a “critical fourth quarter,” business owners in Downtown Beaufort said they feel caught off guard by a recent announcement from the city.
