Democrat Sarah Hempel Irani took the lead over Republican Rob Callahan for the District 5 Frederick City Council seat after Election Day in-person votes for Tuesday's city election were counted — with the majority of all ballots yet to be counted.

Hempel Irani received 287 in-person votes cast on Tuesday. Callahan received 186 votes.
