Democrat Sarah Hempel Irani took the lead over Republican Rob Callahan for the District 5 Frederick City Council seat after in-person votes for Tuesday’s city election were counted — with mail-in ballots yet to be counted.

Hempel Irani received 328 total in-person votes, which include those cast on Tuesday and on early in-person voting days. Callahan received 245 votes. Close
