WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A local election to determine leadership seats for city councils and school boards across the state saw a mix of new and familiar faces rule the night in Wichita. On the Wichita City Council, term limits open the door for one new member. Two other contested races went to the incumbents on Tuesday night.
With all precincts reporting, the final, unofficial tally in Wichita City Council District 1 shows Joseph Shepard defeating LaWanda DeShazar in the race to replace Brandon Johnson, departing in January due to term limits.
Elsewhere in city council seats up for grabs on Tuesday night, incumbents Mike Hoheisel in District 3 and Maggie Ballard in District 6 retained their seats.
Unofficial results show Hoheisel winning his second term over challenger Genevieve Howerto
