KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — With preliminary results from the 2025 Knoxville general election in, five new representatives are poised to join the Knoxville City Council next year.
City Council seats for Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 were on the 2025 general election ballot. The 2025 election cycle was the first to be impacted by a 2023 state law changing how local elections are administered.
During the primary elections for Knoxville City Council, you can vote for candidates only in your district. City rules for the general election previously allowed voters to cast their votes in every city council election, including for districts outside of where they live. However, the new state law requires the same pool of voters to be used for both primary and general elections.
