AMHERST, NY — Amherst voters had the opportunity to elect a new town supervisor on Tuesday, and in the end, they went with Democratic candidate Shawn Lavin.

Lavin was the projected winner late Tuesday night, winning a race against Republican and Conservative Party candidate Dan Gagliardo.

With 98 percent of the precincts reporting, Lavin had 53 percent of the votes (16,090), compared to 47 percent for Gardner (14,269).

Lavin is a veteran, works for Erie County, and is currently the deputy town supervisor in Amherst. During the campaign, he promised an efficient government and transparency.
