BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Shawn Lavin has declared victory in the Amherst supervisor election, a promotion from the deputy supervisor role he is currently in.
As of 10:20 p.m., Lavin has secured 52.9% of the vote over business owner Dan Gagliardo, who ran on the Republican line.
Lavin, who has worked under current supervisor Brian Kulpa, has run on the platform of deliberative development in neighborhoods, investing to repair the town's roads and bridges, protecting services and quality of life in the town, and reforming the town's government.
The election was a hotly contested one. Much of it revolved around Erie County's purchase of the former Westwood Country Club. Gagliardo accused Lavin of acting unethically for his role in the purchase, filing an ethics complaint. Lavin said he recus
