An attorney and business owner who has never held elected office will be Belmont's new mayor.
According to unofficial results from the Gaston County Board of Elections, Joe Jordan, 46, received 2,279 votes, or 63.96% , while Cory Miller, his opponent, received 1,283 votes, or 36.01%.
Jordan is a Republican, while Miller is a Democrat.
In response to questions from The Gaston Gazette before the election, Jordan, a Belmont Abbey College graduate, said that the top issues Belmont is currently facing are growth demand and infrastructure.
