Two incumbent City Council members and one newcomer won seats on the Mount Holly City Council, according to unofficial results from the Gaston County Board of Elections.
Lauren Shoemaker, 46, and Ivory Craig Jr., 37, both were re-elected to the City Council, while William Brooks, 43, who has never held elected office before, won the third seat.
The election was close. Shoemaker had 1,210 votes, or 17.86%, while Craig had 1,201, or 17.72%.
Shoemaker and Brooks are unaffiliated, and Craig is a Republican.
Shoemaker has served two previous terms on the Mount Holly City Council. A scientist of 23 years, she has been on the City Council since 2018.
The coming term will be Craig's second on the Mount Holly City Council. Craig is a former law enforcement officer that now works as a Realtor.
