PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Port Arthur voters have approved Proposition A, a measure allowing the city to fund a wider range of quality-of-life projects without requiring separate elections for each initiative.
The measure converts the city’s economic development corporation from a Type A to a Type B designation under state law 505. The change expands the types of projects that can be funded to include recreation facilities, housing, sports complexes and other community amenities.
Mayor Charlotte Moses and At-Large Councilman Donald Frank had discussed the proposal ahead of the vote, saying the change would help Port Arthur compete with surrounding cities that have already made similar transitions.
