BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont voters rejected Proposition B on Tuesday, defeating a $147 million bond proposal for public safety facilities including a new police headquarters, fire station and animal shelter.
Proposition B failed, receiving only 4,908 votes or 44.84% of the total 10,946 votes.
The proposition's failure came as part of the city's first bond election in 43 years. The $147 million represented the largest of five propositions in a $264 million package approved by the city council and Mayor Roy West earlier this year.
Proposition A was the only bond that Beaumont voters said yes to. They also rejected the city's venue tax.
