BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont voters approved Proposition A on Tuesday, authorizing $58 million in bonds for infrastructure improvements including drainage enhancements, street repairs and a citywide sidewalk initiative.

The proposition passed with 6,329 votes or 57.66% of the total 10,977 votes.

Proposition A was the only bond that Beaumont voters said yes to. They also rejected the city's venue tax.

The proposition passed as part of the city's first bond election in 43 years. The $58 million represents one of five propositions in a $264 million package approved by the city council and Mayor Roy West earlier this year.

Proposition A allocates $28.2 million for drainage improvements, $20 million for street improvements and $10 million for a citywide sidewalk initiative.
