Incumbents on Evergreen Public Schools’ board were winning as of early election returns Tuesday night.
Julie Bocanegra led with 62.23 percent (12,075 votes) to newcomer Jacob Smith’s 37.17 percent (7,212 votes).
“I’m super grateful to the community for believing in me. I know that we have a lot of positive things going in our district, and I’m excited to continue to move things forward,” Bocanegra said Tuesday night. “I know we have a lot of challenges ahead in the coming year with education in general and funding, and so we just really have to stay diligent and keep advocating for all the kids in our community.”
Bocanegra, 53, has served on Evergreen’s board since 2012 . She’s a vice president at Columbia Credit Union and has served on the Evergreen School District Foundation’s board.
