Delaware Celebrity Pastry Chef Dana Herbert, who has been running a dessert shop in Newark for more than a decade, is competing on a new Food Network dessert competition series beginning 9 p.m. Nov. 9.

The show "Sweet Empire: Winter Wars" pits 14 pastry chefs from across the United States against each other as they create edible works of art. The winner receives $50,000.

Television is nothing new to Herbert, a University of Delaware and Johnson & Wales University alumnus known as the “King of Cakes.”

The Bear resident made a name for himself in December 2010 when he first began competing and was then named the first winner of TLC’s "Cake Boss: Next Great Baker' hosted by Buddy Valastro, a star baker from New Jersey.
