MASSILLON ‒ Massillon Municipal Court Magistrate Andrea Scassa will need a new nameplate next year.

The 45-year-old was elected judge, according to Stark County Board of Elections unofficial results in the general election, which concluded with poll voting on Nov. 4. Scassa topped local attorney Dan Funk by a 60% to 40% margin.

"I'm overwhelmed and completely humbled," she said.

Scassa replaces Edward Elum, who will retire after 30 years and five election wins. She'll join Joel Fichter, who ran unopposed this fall to win re-election to the bench.

"I've learned a great deal from both of them," she said.
