Elise Corbin's son Landon enrolled at the Mississippi School for the Blind in 2022, and during his first year, she said the school felt like a community.

By the next year, she said, much of that had changed. Teachers left, online instruction expanded and her son — blind in one eye and diagnosed with lattice degeneration in both, a retinal condition that limits his screen use — spent more time on a computer his doctors had warned him to avoid.
