ON THIS DAY IN 1901 , the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported, “The practical use of the voting machine in the Eighteenth Election District of the First Assembly District, at 349 Atlantic avenue, today demonstrated conclusively, according to all who watched its operation, that for speed and accuracy it is far superior to the older method of voting by the blanket ballot. The majority of the voters in the Eighteenth District found no difficulty in the use of the machine and those unacquainted with its workings quickly learned how to register their choice on the ticket. The machine had been on exhibition since last Thursday. Its mechanism and mode of operation was explained each evening.
