DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Durham Rescue Mission is stepping up to support families impacted by the government shutdown.

An emergency food giveaway will happen Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the organization's main campus on 1201 E. Main Street in Durham.

The food distribution will operate as a drive-through and walk-up event open to anyone in need. Supplies is limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

"For 52 years, the Durham Rescue Mission has been a safety net for our community," said Ernie Mills Jr., Vice President of Development. "This is no exception. We're leading the charge to care for those in need and fulfill the call to love our neighbors. We need shelf-stable food items and volunteers to help bag and distribute food."
