A three year old girl from Lancashire has died after falling into a hotel swimming pool during a family holiday in Greece. The tragedy happened in Lardos, a coastal resort village on the island of Rhodes, on October 14.

The child, known only as Matilda, was allegedly left unsupervised while on holiday with her family.

Matilda, who was from Blackpool , was discovered unconscious at the bottom of the pool within the hotel complex. A British doctor, who happened to be nearby, performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

She was swiftly taken to the General Hospital of Rhodes where she was intubated before being transferred to Crete and later airlifted back to England. Despite the tireless efforts of medical staff, Matilda died after 12 days in hospital.
