The White House lowered flags to half-staff on Nov. 4 in honor of former Vice President Dick Cheney.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Tuesday ordered that Michigan and U.S. flags at the State Capitol Complex, and all public buildings and grounds in the state lower their flags to half staff until interment of the former vice president.
President Donald Trump has not publicly issued an order for flags to be flown at half-staff for Cheney's death, but White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday that they were lowered at the White House "in accordance with statutory law."
The federal law about the position and manner of display of the American flag says that it must be flown at half-staff until a former vice president's day of interment.
