Coweta County reported 27,182 ballots cast in Tuesday’s Municipal General and Special Election, reflecting a 24.56 percent voter turnout, according to unofficial results released Tuesday night.

Election Day voting accounted for 16,535 ballots, with 10,371 cast during advance voting and 276 submitted by absentee mail.

Provisional ballots were included in the final tally, and all 24 precincts reported at 100 percent. Results remain unofficial until certified.

Newnan voters elect new mayor

Newnan residents chose James Shepherd as the city’s next mayor. Shepherd received 3,018 votes (44.11 percent) in the three-way race, defeating incumbent Keith Brady, who received 1,628 votes (23.79 percent). Danny Beck finished with 2,196 votes (32.10 percent).
