The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority Board of Directors voted last month to invest another $50 million into the Ambler Road project. The decision came a day before the Trump administration signed off on previously announced federal permits for the project.
The 211-mile private industrial haul road would connect the Dalton Highway to the Ambler Mining District, a region in the Northwest Arctic Borough.
The Biden administration revoked the project’s right-of-way permits through the Gates of the Arctic National Park in 2024 due to its potential environmental impacts to rivers, streams, fish, migratory birds, and caribou herds, along with concerns for dozens of rural Alaska Native villages.
