A collision in Scarborough caused a major shutdown of Highway 401 and hampered the morning commute for motorists heading into the city from Durham Region on Wednesday.
Ontario Provincial Police say the crash occurred near Morningside Rd. prompting the closure of the westbound express lanes at Brock Rd. in Pickering.
“Toronto OPP and emergency services are at the scene,” the OPP said in a message posted on X shortly before 8 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing and no further details were immediately released, but the westbound lanes of the busy highway were not expected to open any time soon.
“Avoid the area and plan alternate routes,” the OPP advised. “The closure is expected to be lengthy.”
